Our Story
What do found keys, a lost cat, and a loose sail have in common? 18Blocks! And here’s why:
A while back, one of our founders came across a set of house keys on the sidewalk. He wanted to return them but he didn’t know how. Posters? Soggy and tattered after day two, with no guarantee they’d catch the key owner’s attention. He wanted a better way of reaching everyone in the neighbourhood so that whoever lost their keys could get them back the very same day.
Around the same time, our other founder watched in dismay as the sail on the boat next to his unfurled and began to tear in a strong wind. He didn’t know the owner and had no way to contact him to let him know his boat was in trouble. Wouldn’t it be great, he thought, if there was a quick and easy way to locate the skipper and avert further damage?
By happy coincidence, our two founders met. After some brainstorming around the concept of connecting neighbours, 18Blocks, the neighbourhood notice board, was born.
18Blocks helps neighbours communicate with each other instantly and share more than a postal code – like invites, resources, and other local information. 18Blocks helps people discover how vibrant they are as a neighbourhood community and how much they have in common.
As for the keys, we still have them. We’ve posted a note letting the owner know they've been found.
