What is 18Blocks?

18Blocks is your neighbourhood notice board.

*Neighbours can post notes and find local businesses

*Schools can promote their fairs and activities

*City services can advertise their programs and facilities

*Community Centres can reach out to their local community

Anything you used to pin to a board or plaster to a pole, you can post on 18Blocks for the neighbourhood to see. The notice board you had to walk past to notice is now on your desk or in your hand.

Save the trees, protect the poles and post your note on 18Blocks. It’s how you connect to your neighbours, the original social network.

How do I use 18Blocks?

Write or read Notes, reply privately or publically. Save your favourites for future reference. Choose categories in which to post so that they may be easily found. Filter your 18Blocks notice board to show you only the categories in which you are interested.

If you wish to start up a new group (a neighbourhood cooking club for example), simply post a note to that effect on the notice board. Interested parties can respond to you privately (if you prefer), or in a public posting.

Why Register?

If you simply want to view notes and their associated comments, you don't need to be a registered user.

How does 18Blocks define a neighbourhood?

18Blocks creates neighbourhood borders as defined by the city. If your neighbourhood has not been defined, please contact us.

Can I view other neighbourhood notice boards?

Sure you can. Simply select the neighbourhood whose notice board you wish to view. It’s a great way to see what’s happening in that ‘hood or get a taste of what it’s like to live there or simply see what is happening there.

How much does it cost for neighbours to use 18Blocks?

Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Zero.

Do I have to post in English?

You can post in any language you like and any language your keyboard can manage.

Who has access to my neighbourhood’s 18Blocks notice board?

All neighbourhood notice boards are public. People from other neighbourhoods can see your neighbourhood’s board. This gives them an idea of what’s happening in your hood, so that they can come visit the stores and restaurants, your garage sale, community events, and anything else you've going on.

I don’t see my neighbourhood on the map.

Can't find your neighbourhood? This is a great opportunity for you to put your neighbourhood on the map. We would love to help. Please use the 'New Board' button on the Map page to request a notice board for your neighbourhood.

Can anyone else see the categories I have selected on my notice board?

No, only you can see your preferences. Everyone else will see either the full neighbourhood notice board content or their own personal category preferences.

What personal information do you collect and why?

When you create an account with 18Blocks, you provide some personal information, including a user name, password, first name, last name and email address.

We do not transfer, store nor share this information with third parties for marketing or other commercial purposes. We may, for security purposes and to improve the user experience, track services you have requested and record your preferences.

What happens when I cancel my registration?

If you cancel your registration, all your personal information is deleted from our database. We keep nothing. All Notes that you have posted are vaporized. Any Comments, Replies, Likes or RSVPs will also be deleted. If you wish to register again, you will need to supply your details again because we will not have the information to associate with your new account.

How do you protect my personal information?

We use reasonable security measures in an effort to prevent loss, misuse, and alteration of information under our control. We cannot, however, guarantee protection of all information against interception, misappropriation, misuse, or alteration. Nor can we always guard against disclosure of or access to your information by accidental circumstances or by the unauthorized acts of others.

What is 18Blocks' notice board netiquette?

18Blocks stays out of your inbox. We do not allow eblasts or spam. We will contact you via email only if you request it. Everything stays on the board - from comments and replies to your posts - until you are ready to read them.

Please do not post any hateful or obscene material.

For your own security, please do not publically post your phone number or email address on a Note. Use the 'Private Reply' function instead.

Please do not post restaurant or store reviews, there are other places for that.

Please be a good neighbour.
